Aplus First LIGHTER CHECK + OOP

By Jose Carlo C. Viloria III

The first Lighter Check + Out-of-Phase Check (LC + OOP) on Cebu Pacific’s RP-C4100 was conducted last November 20, 2021. It was a dream project that marked the very first time an Airbus 321 was positioned inside the newly-renovated Aplus Hangar. A milestone for Aplus as this officially expanded the capabilities of the company to include Lighter Check with OOP beyond A check for Airbus A320/321. “Truly a challenge to the Company due to the tools and material requirements, as well as the planning involved despite numerous customer revisions’ explains Rico Ugdoracion, Aplus General Manager.

The entire process involved: Capacity Planning Department reviewing all the tasks included in the package; Materials and Tools Management reviewing and processing all the tools and materials for procurement; Light Maintenance Team setting up the schedule and allocating the manpower needed; Weekly meetings between the Light Maintenance Team and the Customer until induction date to tie-up loose ends if any and make sure all areas are covered.

The Check was targeted to be completed in 48 hours, but with a strategic approach and good planning, Aplus managed to complete the whole package in only 19 hours, working on two shifts. It was composed of 103 task cards with some outside-of-the-package workload and Deferred Defects Clearing added for the purpose of maximizing ground time. As a result, Aplus was commended by Cebu Pacific’s Manager of Planning. “Wow! Less than 48 hours, salute! Will commend Aplus on the next review meeting” exclaims Marie Joanne Lazo, Cebu Pacific Planning Manager.

Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has approved  Aplus capabilities for Lighter Check with Out-of-Phase (OOP) beyond Acheck on the Airbus 320/321
